3/6: Emmanuel College May Ball – Morning After

Posted: June 15th, 2009 - 12.43 PM | No Comments »

Just woken at 12.30. Ended up getting to be at around 7. I’m beginning to feel quite permanently tired. Got an evening off tonight until Clare at around 12.30.

Had first half of the ball off. The ball was big, with many activities, good food and good acts.

Task: Working on Fizz Bar. Promoted to Joint Fizz Bar Manager.

Good bits:

- Cornershop “dropping” Brimful of Asha.

- Rob Carter’s comedy songs.

- food – large supplies of Chinese and Indian.

- dodgems.

- cans of cloudy lemonade.

- large tables covered in fresh fruit.

- fizz bar – great staff…

Bad bits:

- darkness – not really very light anywhere, had to wait until 4 am to see things once darkness had descended.

- staff organisation – no real micromanagement system for staff, only committee members.

- some of the other songs played by Cornershop.

Energy Drink: Rockstar. Many different varieties.

2/6: Peterhouse May Ball – Morning After

Posted: June 14th, 2009 - 2.50 PM | No Comments »

Got to bed at around 9 am. Now woken up at about half 2. Working 1 am until 8 am. Had to do 2 hours of clear up at the end. Finished the shift with a McDonalds.

The ball was very big and decadent. I never knew that Peterhouse was anything like that large. Two fairground rides!

Task: Serving Cocktails til 5.45 then General Worker.

Good points:

- good music on the Notting Hill Stage all night.

- lots of drink although some ran out.

- lots of recycling going on.

- glass glasses for almost everything.

- loads of champagne.

- lots of structure in the staff. Blue sashes were worse than red ones.

- loads of banter with great workers.

Bad points:

- apparently food ran out pretty early.

- dress code was white tie, workers were not uniformly dressed.

- made to do lots of clearing up.

- ran out of ice.

- liquid waste was not well thought through.

- cocktail maths was clearly not done 100% correctly.

Energy Drink: Shark. It tasted ok. Same as Emmanuel 2007.

1/6: Robinson May Ball – Morning After

Woken at around midday. Not feeling too bad. No work commitments for the next 12 hours when the May Ball duo return.

Robinson May Ball 2009 – Phantasmogoria.

1/6 Friday – Robinson May Ball

Posted: June 13th, 2009 - 4.53 AM | No Comments »

I’m back and ready for bed. Worked first half and didn’t stay until the end of the ball. Was pretty fun.

Task: General Worker.

Really enjoyed doing the litter picking. Really good job satisfaction. Looking forward to doing that again if I’ve got that job elsewhere… I can’t remember.

Drink dried up quite early but overall a very good ball especially for so cheap.

Good bits:

- lots of good food: curry, burgers, hog roast, hot dogs.

- dodgems.

- Independent newspaper.

- shooting range.

Shame about:

- music in silent disco: you need cheesy pop in these things, when will people learn this.

- 2 hours of salsa dancing on main stage.

- placement of DJs and singing groups such that one oddly juxtaposed the other.

Energy Drinks: VK Energy and KICK. A blind taste test showed KICK to be the superior product.
